GigaTrust Tip - Viewing via a BlackBerry

GigaTrust allows authorized users to view protected content on a BlackBerry mobile device. To take advantage of this, users should follow the steps outlined below.

Prerequisites: The GigaTrust BlackBerry client works with most BlackBerry handheld models (contact us for a list). To enable your BlackBerry to view content you need to belong to a company that has a BlackBerry Enterprise Server™ (BES) and GigaTrust has already been set up to work with it. (For complete details, please contact GigaTrust Sales.)

Setup: Your system administrator can push the link to the GigaTrust BlackBerry client software down to the devices. Then, you only need to click that link on your BlackBerry to download the GigaTrust software.

Non-Windows View Permission: To view protected content on the BlackBerry device, the author of the protected content must grant recipients the permission Allow viewing on non-Windows computers and devices. [The permission is available on the GigaTrust Advanced window when protecting an email (Figure 1) and on the Other Policies tab in a template.] If this permission is not selected, the recipient will not be able to open the email unless they are using a Windows 2000 or Windows XP operating system.

Opening Content: Protected content delivered to the BlackBerry always appears as an attachment. Using your BlackBerry, open the message and then select the GigaTrust Quick View option. This will invoke the GigaTrust Viewer and open the content - if the correct GigaTrust User ID and password are provided. For ease of use, GigaTrust offers the option to store your username and password on the BlackBerry device. (See Tip #26 for protecting via a BlackBerry.)

Forward looking notes:
  1. GigaTrust can eliminate the requirement to have a BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) if requested by users. This initial implementation was selected to take advantage of BES features to enhance and simplify the user experience.
  2. GigaTrust plans to expand the list of non-Windows devices to Apple and Linux computers.
