GIGATRUST ACQUIRES AUSTIN-BASED PINION SOFTWARE
Acquisition Broadens GigaTrust’s Enterprise Rights Management Software and Expands Market Reach
GigaTrust now can offer Microsoft’s Windows Rights Management Services-enabled support for native software applications
Herndon, VA—February 12, 2008—GigaTrust, the leader in Enterprise Rights Management (ERM) solutions, announced today the acquisition of the assets of Pinion Software, a privately held software company based in Austin, Texas. With the acquisition, GigaTrust now can offer an industry first to enterprise-level manufacturing, aerospace and defense clients: A complete set of RMS-enabled solutions for every facet of their business.
“I have been impressed with Pinion’s technology since it was first introduced to the ERM industry in 1998,” said Bob Bernardi, chairman and CEO of GigaTrust. “This acquisition strengthens our client software products and vertically expands our solutions into engineering computer-assisted design (CAD) applications in support of new markets.
“The acquisition of the Pinion assets brings a wealth of patented technologies and solutions into the GigaTrust portfolio that will deepen and broaden our market opportunities in the future.”
Intelligent Rights Management, the core of GigaTrust’s solution, is a suite of software products that embraces and extends RMS. GigaTrust helps its customers take RMS beyond the enterprise network by offering solutions that enable secure content supply chain collaboration which is persistently protected – at rest, in transit and in use.
“Joining GigaTrust enables us to better serve our customers and continue to expand our business,” said Darryl Worsham, Pinion Software president and CEO. “Using GigaTrust’s extensive worldwide network of customers and partners, along with integrating the Pinion engineering and technical solutions into the GigaTrust offerings, opens up new, complete RMS-enabled solutions in the manufacturing enterprise space.”
The acquisition was completed January 31, 2008. Terms were not released.
The acquisition of Pinion Software positions GigaTrust to extend Microsoft’s RMS platform into the enterprise CAD market. Pinion has implemented its patented rights control technology to a variety of CAD applications from Autodesk, Dassualt Systemes including Solidworks®, and PTC, plus other file formats including Microsoft® Office Visio, Adobe® PDF, Adobe® Flash®, and Lotus Notes® totaling over 40 additional popular formats. The technology is also used to control screen scraping applications such as SnagIt and has been implemented for customers such as Haliburton, Lockheed Martin, and Tyco Thermal. The combination of Pinion’s products and GigaTrust’s technology positions GigaTrust as the clear leader in the ERM industry.
